During our 2004 vacation, we traveled the Pacific Northwest; spending a week in Seattle, Vancouver and the San Juan Islands. Of course we visited Pike Place Market while in Seattle and the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Center at Stanley Park while in Vancouver. As part of our time in the San Juan Islands, we went on a couple of whale watching tours.

While the city life was exciting, it was nice to take a break and travel around the beautiful countryside in the North Cascade Mountains. The peaks of the North Cascade Mountains were sculpted by the Cordilleran Ice Sheet during the last ice age, leaving them exceptionally cragged and rugged.
